Iowa Core Essential Concept &/or Skills
The Iowa Core has concepts/skills placed into grade spans. Each span is basically the same just re-worded. These skills are nothing new. The list begins with higher order thinking skills and works it's way down to lower order thinking. |
ISTE National Educational Technology Standards (NETS•S) for students
Iowa Core is based off of the National Standards. It would have been too easy to simply adopt them. Once again note the common words that appear in each. |
IKM-Manning Standards
These are the Standards that were developed several years ago when we were working with A-I-M. You should see some common words in both our standards and the IA Core. Once again, the IA Core Concepts are nothing new. 21st Century Skills are not something we've never seen or done before. |
Let's Make Life SIMPLE!
Pulling out the key words, makes it much easier to try and coordinate the 21st Century Skills and what we already do in the classroom. Create It- Almost any project that student make something fall here. Most of the time if you complete something in this area, you will probably hit each of the following skills along the way. Share It- If you make a Glogster poster, you're sharing it online, probably in the classroom, and if you worked in groups, you collaborated. Find It- Anytime you have students search for information you complete this skill. Solve It- Students are presented with a problem and they must decide how to solve it using technology. Protect It- Do you discuss the importance of not sharing passwords or how it's wrong to copy work? Use It- This is the area that we already do heavily. But, do we do it purposely would be my question?
